When consuming snacks or special treats, it’s always a good idea to make smile-friendly choices. That’s especially true at Halloween – because you probably have more candy than you  know what to do with. The best thing to do with some of it is to give it away. Take it to work and leave it in the breakroom, or put it out on the porch with a note inviting delivery drivers to help themselves.

That doesn’t mean you and your family have to completely avoid treats, though. As this short video explains, it’s pretty easy to select options that are better for your smile and your overall health. 

Chocolate is a good choice. Since it melts quickly in your mouth, it washes away from teeth before it can cause damage. In contrast, sticky candies like taffy, Airheads, and gummies cling to your teeth. This makes you more prone to cavities and other problems. And don’t consume anything labeled “sour.” Those candies have especially high concentrations of sugar and acid, which make them especially hard on teeth.

Making the right dietary choices is a great thing to do for your smile. Of course, you also need to brush and floss every day. And visit our office every six months for a cleaning and exam
